If you're registered disabled or have a long-term illness, or you're buying on behalf of someone who does, you may be able to claim back the VAT depending on the product you purchase.
What is eligible?
To claim a refund, the mobility or living aid product must be specifically designed to support a disability or condition.
Some products may be beneficial for your condition (and could even be recommended by a doctor) but aren't eligible for a VAT refund because they're not specifically designed to support people with a health condition.
For example:
A reclining chair may make sitting more comfortable if you have a health condition, but it would not be eligible for a VAT refund as it's not specially designed to support any condition.
A rise and recline chair, however, would be eligible, because it's been specially designed to help someone to stand up if they find that activity difficult due to a health condition.
